Come and join the Carnival Committee!
Bewdley Carnival only happens because local people give a bit of their time. We have four teams, so there’s a job for every skill and every amount of time. Have a look and see where you’d fit.
Carnival Day
Making the big day happen, from the fireworks to the stage to the Royals.
What you’d do
- Book the fireworks, funfair, bouncy castles and traders
- Hire the venues, bins and toilets
- Draw up the event plan for the programme booklet
- Organise the Carnival Royals: applications, outfits and their decorated vehicle
- Invite the Mayor and look after them on the day
- Choose the Local Causes and run the Window Display competition
- Book bands, sort the stage and set list, and work with the compere
- Arrange first aid and staff the committee tent (lost child point, raffle, merch)
Great if you like planning, organising and being on the ground on the day.
Risk and Safety
Keeping everyone safe, the roads closed properly and the parade running smoothly.
What you’d do
- Organise road closures, notices, banners and letters to residents
- Arrange marshals and radios, working with Raynet
- Find and work with a traffic management company
- Write risk assessments and keep our policies up to date
- Sort the yearly insurance (public liability and trustee cover)
- Organise the parade: entries, planning and the day itself
Great if you’re methodical, calm and like making sure things are done properly.
Fundraising and Events
Raising the money that pays for the Carnival, and having fun doing it.
What you’d do
- Run fun events through the year, like bingo, quizzes and the grotto (this team has its own WhatsApp group)
- Find sponsors, such as pubs, for the stage
- Put together sponsorship packages and stay in touch with sponsors
- Sort out banners and logos
Great if you’re sociable, love a good event or aren’t shy about asking businesses for support.
Public Relations
Spreading the word so the whole town knows what’s coming.
What you’d do
- Post on social media
- Keep the website up to date
- Talk to the press, such as the Kidderminster Standard, The Shuttle and Bewdley Bridge
- Produce leaflets
- Put together the advertising booklet
Great if you enjoy writing, social media, design or chatting to the local press.
